What documents do I need to get married in Turkey?

Please contact the municipality where you intent to get married in Turkey to obtain a list of required documents. In most cases, you will need the following documents:

    • Your Valid Passport

You need to show an official document that establishes your citizenship status. In most cases, it is your valid passport. You may need to get it translated into Turkish and approved by a Turkish Consulate or Apostilled.
    • Your Single Status Certificate

You need to show an official document proving that you are eligible to get married. It is also called certificate of celibacy and affidavit of eligibility, certificate of capacity to marry. In most cases, this certificate is issued by a county clerk.

The Single Status Certificate should state that you are single and you are legally eligible to get married.

If you are divorced or widowed, you still need to prove that you are eligible to marry. If you are divorced, you may need to get your divorce decree translated, approved by a Turkish Consulate or Apostilled. Feel free to contact us for your translation, Turkish Consulate approval and Apostil needs.
