Power of Attorney (Vekaletname) for Real Estate Transactions

October 17, 2025 by Ceylan

Turkish citizens residing in the jurisdiction of the Türk Konsolosluğu, Los Angeles can apply for a power of attorney (POA)/ vekaletname, in person. The jurisdiction of Turkish Consulate General, Los Angeles, includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Pacific Islands (Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, American Samoa). Non-Turkish speaking Turkish citizens MUST bring a registered Turkish interpreter to their POA appointment— a translated POA copy alone does not replace this requirement. And we can help you!

What to Bring to your Power of Attorney Appointment

  • Turkish ID card or valid Turkish passport
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license or ID
  • Two biometric photos per POA
  • A digital copy of your POA
  • $300 cash for Consulate processing fees
  • Agent’s valid ID or attorney information in Turkiye
  • Recommended: copy of property title deed

What to Expect on your Power of Attorney Appointment Day

  1. Meet your interpreter at 9:00 AM in the hallway of the Turkish Consulate (9th floor). Arrive 15 minutes early.
  2. Enter the Consulate together with your interpreter and submit your documents* to the Consulate officer.
  3. The officer reviews your application and asks verification questions about the purpose of your POA.
  4. The officer prepares a draft POA for your review. You and your interpreter will go over the draft, ask questions, and request changes if needed. It’s highly recommended to share this draft with your agent in Türkiye for approval during the appointment at the Turkish Consulate, Los Angeles.
  5. Once you approve the draft, the officer prepares the final POA. You and the interpreter sign the document.
  6. The Consul signs and stamps the final POA, notarizing it officially.
  7. You pay the processing fee in cash and receive your document.**

*The process typically takes 2–3 hours.

**Your POA will be registered in the national notary database within 3 business days. Your agent can then visit any public notary office in Türkiye to obtain a certified copy.
