If you’ve granted someone a power of attorney in Turkey and need to cancel it, you have two options. The process of revoking a Turkish POA is called an Azilname, and acting quickly is important — your agent retains full authority until the revocation is formally completed and delivered.
Option 1: Revoke Through the Turkish Consulate
You can issue an Azilname directly at your nearest Turkish Consulate without traveling to Turkey. Here’s what to expect:
What you need to bring:
- A copy of your existing POA
- A valid passport
- Cash to cover Consulate fees (typically $300–$500; bring $500 to be safe)
- Your agent’s delivery address
If you are not a Turkish speaker, the Consulate requires you to bring a Consulate-vetted interpreter. We can attend your appointment as your certified interpreter.
How it works:
Once the Azilname is issued, the Consulate sends it to Turkey where it is formally delivered to your current agent through Turkey’s official notification (tebligat) system. You must provide your agent’s current address in Turkey for this step. The entire process typically takes 4 to 8 months.
Turkish citizens: If you hold Turkish citizenship, you may be able to issue your Azilname digitally through e-Devlet, Turkey’s government portal, without a Consulate visit.
Option 2: Appoint a New Agent in Turkey to Revoke the POA
A faster alternative is to issue a new POA authorizing a trusted person in Turkey to revoke the existing one on your behalf. Your representative does not need to be a lawyer or a Turkish citizen — any adult can carry out this process in person at a Turkish notary.
This option is significantly faster, typically taking about 3 weeks.
